The first event of the season took place as part of the RS Scotland regatta hosted by Port Edgar Yacht Club. This saw RS200s, RS400s and the 2000 fleets join fevas for a day of training on the Saturday followed by a one day regatta on the Sunday. The weather gods obliged for the whole of the weekend with events on the South coast cancelled and most of the fleets at the RYA Eric Twiname Championships at Rutland Water confined to the shore at Rutland Water in gusts of thirty knots the RS classes in Scotland enjoyed a light to moderate breeze and sunshine.
The training on the Saturday was led by Ali with an extra feva joining in from local club Dalgety Bay to have a taste for asymmetric doubled handed sailing. A range of exercises were run giving sailors the chance to get some coaching before the regatta on the Sunday. With the sunny conditions and moderate winds from Saturday continuing into the Sunday all fleets launched eagerly awaiting a full schedule of racing out on the water. With five races for the fevas it was a full on day for although a quick break ashore at lunchtime gave sailors a chance to refuel ready for the afternoon. Racing got tighter and tighter over the course of the day with starts getting closer and some great battles taking place on the downwind legs.
A big thanks to Race Officer Olly and the whole of the Port Edgar Yacht Club Team for their efforts on the day with plenty of mark moves between races to keep the safety boat crews on their toes and give the sailors really good square courses. The class will be back next year with more boats looking forwards to another great event.
